The inhabitants of the lagoon, where the 18 - year - old lives, who with a severe sentence, suspect that the young man has been treated draconicly by justice because he is of the Ashkali community. They say he's not even guilty. The Express newspaper has stayed in the Tahiri family today, and it brings their confession to this occasion.
Her birthday party didn't last long. Just two days after he was 18 years old, Shenoll Tahiri from Podujevo was put in handcuffs under suspicion of stealing 430 euros.
The whole event began on September 10th of this year. This same day, Shenolly had returned from Serbia, where he had been working for weeks to help his family make a living.
But the next day he was arrested by Kosovo Police, as one of the suspects of a robbery that had occurred at MoneyGram in Podujevo. For this work, he was found guilty by the Court, and sentenced to seven years in prison.
While family members and neighbors are saying that all of this was done to them because they belong to the Ashkali community.
The Express newspaper has been staying today in the Tahiri family, who have flatly denied that their son may be involved in this robbery.
Shenoll's mother, Velie Tahiri, has told Gazeta Express that her son was not even involved in this robbery. He says his son admitted to guilt only after being forced by the police. He claims that his son after his arrest was all marked by bodily violence.
She claims that in the video, used in the Court as evidence, the person seen committing the robbery is nothing like Shenoll.
While he says that his son is still a child, and the most he can take something from his son, it's iron, because since their sale they make a living.
“The boy was taken without guilt, because he did not perform that work. Niher told us he took 20,000 euros, worth seven thousand euros, and finally he said the owner who was robbed 430 euros. We're in the courts, even when they left us the video, the guy didn't match mine. Every mother knows her son, and I'm the guy I said this isn't my son. His ears are not his. The boy has borne the blame for the violence that when we're gone there's been all kinds of signs that beat him at”, Velim says.
Velim shows that her husband died a year ago. They say that all the money that they get their mouth bites is what they get from the social, and from some iron that they sell her children.
And with the boy arrested, he says he's lost his way into the yard, and he's got nowhere to go.
I'm a kid. I can't say that you never do. Come on. We're alive and alive with hera, we only live with one social. We lost our way in the yard. I'm a nana, and it hurts a lot, but if he did, I swear to God, but he didn't make it”, she says about Express.
Even Schenoll's uncle Ganiu says that his nephew was unjustly sentenced. Until he insists that he did not perform that work, since he was not the one who did such work.
Even Ganiu says that Shenoll was forced by police to admit his guilt. He even says that even the company in which the robbery was committed does not accuse his nephew of committing the robbery. The Express newspaper contacted the company in question, but they didn't respond to the same calls.
The boy has told us that the police have beaten him until he's been convicted. They told him to take the job. We're gonna take his soul out. They also have it written to”.
So do their neighbors. They deny that the 18-year-old stole until they say all of this is being done only after belonging to the Ashkali community. They are earnestly seeking his release.
The signing of a petition through which they are seeking his release has already begun. So far they show that they have collected about 130 signatures and that they will continue to collect additional signatures.
The petition signing initiative has been under way for two months, and so far it has been collected 128 signatures for its release.
That Shenoll was convicted without any evidence of his lawyer. Tahiri's lawyer says his client was condemned without facts and that as a result, he will complain to the second degree.
The “has pronounced the sentence of 7 years in prison, without enough evidence, while in a video discussion presented as evidence, no voice is heard, nor is it in my client”, the lawyer told the media.
Meanwhile, the Podujevo Police Station has not yet been declared for the occasion.
