The UN General Assembly in 1971 proposed that member states, on UN Day, mark it also as an official holiday.
The charter, founded on June 26, 1945, was signed in San Francisco as it went into effect on October 24th after the five permanent members of China, France, the former Soviet Union, the United States, Great Britain and most of the countries were signed.
UN Day marks the anniversary of the United Nations Charter's entry into force in 1945.
