The latest data from the International Migration Organisation (IOM) shows that during 2018 in Albania it has been ascertained by local authorities with 1698 refugees, or 5 times the same period of the previous year.
The data thus clearly shows that Albania has become a new crossing route for refugees coming exclusively from the Middle East. In Albania, 50% of the refugees coming are from Syria, while Afghanistan and Iraq also follow.
Despite a significant increase in the number of refugees, the data seems to signal another phenomenon, that of illegal border crossing.
