The right-wing Conservative People's Party (VP) and the far-right Freedom Party (FP) in Asuter are planning to suspend emergency social assistance for more than 150,000 people.
The new plan relates to the integration of emergency social assistance to temporary unemployment benefits. Long-term unemployed are expected to integrate with minimal benefits. Recent data has shown that some 167,000 people are expected to be affected. According to Austria's Statistics Data and Labour Market Service (AMS), most of the people affected by the interruption of emergency aid are men (101500).
About 135 200 people have received financial aid worth 880 euros or less a month, including family benefits for partners and children. Theoretically, there is no limit to how long one can remain in emergency social aid, but it can only be allowed in 52 weeks.
