On Tuesday, Irma has become a tropical wind, but there is still power to cause damage.
Officials said the storm took seven lives in Florida, two in Georgia, and one in South Carolina.
The US Federal Agency for Emergency Management said that one in four houses in Florida Keys has been destroyed by Irma, while 60 per cent of homes in this group of islands have suffered damage.
It also estimates that 13 million residents of Florida remain without electricity.
Cuba said on Tuesday that 12 people died in this country over the weekend when the 4th category hurricane landed, bringing the death to 35 in the Caribbean.
Britain, France, and the Netherlands, which have territories in the Caribbean, have already begun helping. / REL
