In the protest against globalisation with the slogan “Welcome to hell”, protesters have clashed with police, throwing bottles and stones, as a result of which 111 policemen have been injured.

Police have opposed demonstrators with tear gas and water cannons, broadcast AFP. Fights are continuing today.

Police have revised the balance of clashes that started with police last night and have disclosed that the number of injured among police is 111, 29 people have been arrested and 15 others have been sent into custody, German news agency DPA broadcast. Police today reported that there is an operation against violent people who are hunting Molotov cocktails and setting fire to police cars in the Alton district near the police station, Kosova Prees broadcast.

Police also announced that today they have used water cannons to disperse the blockade of demonstrators at the lake, while today the G20 summit will begin. As it says, demonstrators were warned many times before it came to intervention.

Four helicopters are flying over town. NTV television reported that there are several vehicles burned.

Up to 100,000 demonstrators are expected during the G20 summit.

The Hamburg summit gathers world leaders, including the American president of Russia and China Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping. According to the assessment of many world agencies, this could be the most tense summit yet.

Some 20,000 police officers have been hired for summit security in Hamburg.
