In the north, the rule of law doesn't function, the corrupt relatives have no stopping

The high level of corruption in northern Kosovo has resulted from the failure of the justice system and the lack of a law to protect those who show corruption cases and persons involved. As in all Kosovo municipalities, corrupt relatives in which not only public people, municipal officials, public enterprises, but other organisations, even security and justice, have seen increases in northern Kosovo municipalities, northern Mitrovica, Zvecan, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok.

High levels of corruption have affected all instances, while the state has proved powerless to prevent this phenomenon, in particular to identify and bring corrupt people to justice.

In northern Kosovo, the main cause of corruption is the lack of functioning of the judicial system. A major problem is also the failure to enforce a law on the protection of alarmists of corruption, and there is no physical or legal form for protecting people who point to corruption cases and persons involved in corruption.

The fight against corruption cannot be fought individually, but it must be systematic and with a mobilization of all society structures, Zer writes.

This consisting has emerged from a discussion that is organised in northern Mitrovica by the Centre for Presentation of Democratic Culture, A CDC and “Radio Contact Plus”, theme: “corruption and transparency”. The problem and the causes of corruption in society have been discussed, as well as the perception of transparency in community, with the aim of raising the level of awareness at the local level, respectively, announcing citizens with all problems, their causers and mechanisms for their solution.
