During the last five days, hundreds of facilities - including millions of dollars - have been destroyed as firefighters fight the flames fueled by air currents. About 190 thousand people have been evacuated from their homes.
“is estimated that the fire is currently extended to 130 thousand hectares. We confirmed that 425 houses and hundreds of other buildings have already been destroyed”, Mike Depose, spokesperson for the city's fire department of Santa Barbara, reported VOA.
Santa Ana's powerful winds help the flames that have scorched vast areas along the Pacific Coast, San Diego, and Santa Barbara, some 70 miles [370 km] farther north.
I tell my friends it's like a war zone. Lost homes and a tragic destruction of family lives living in these areas, as well as natural beauty”, Depose says.
More than 5700 firefighters, assisted by helicopters, are spraying water and fire elements in areas where six large fires are burned since Monday.
President Donald Trump approved federal instructions opening the way for federal agencies to help coordinate these efforts in the state of California.
