USA and O SEU calls for finding authors of Anna Politkovskaya assassination

The US State Department and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe is calling on Russia to locate and prosecute the perpetrators of the journalist Anna Politkovskaya's 11-year murder.

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said the lack of resolution to the murder of Mrs. Politikovskaya and other journalists in Russia, as well as threats to journalists, have further exacerbated the atmosphere of intimidation for the independent press.

Harlem Desir, O representative The SEU for media freedom said it is unacceptable that organisers of the killing of Politikosvkaya and other journalists remain at large. This vicious cycle of impunity has an ongoing effect on the state of media freedom in Russia”.

Politikovskaya was a world-renowned journalist for her writings on human rights violations and corruption in Chechnya and other parts of the Caucasus, suffering from a deadly Islamic uprising. She was also a severe critic of the Kremlin.
