Bulgarian contingent joins KFOR to strengthen security in Kosovo

A contingent of 97 Bulgarian soldiers, mainly from the mechanised Second Brigade “Tundja”, has been launched by Stara Zagora to join KFOR's peacekeeping operation in Kosovo.
Assigned to the Western Regional Command, soldiers will be deployed to base “Villaggio Italy”, where in six months they will carry out patrol missions, surveillance and security support in their area of responsibility, reports “Bennews. bg”, Transmission Periscope.
According to Vladko Vladov, chief of the Bulgarian Defence Ministry's Political Cabinet, this turnout testifies to Bulgaria's commitment to NATO operations and to maintaining stability in the Western Balkans.
Bulgaria's Land Forces Commander, Major General Dean Dukov, recalled that the country's military personnel have participated in the Alliance's mission to Kosovo for 26 years, winning a strong reputation for discipline and professionalism during the rotations.
Prior to the departure, members of the contingent received an icon of St. George, the Bulgarian Army's patron saint, who was handed over by the deputy head of the Stara Zagora municipality, Milena Jeleva, as a sign of support for their mission./ Periscope.
