20 years in prison for 45-year-old Kosovo to kill former partner in Switzerland

A 45-year-old from Kosovo has been sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Wevey Criminal Court in the Swiss Vaud canton, after being convicted of killing his former partner in May 2023. The court described the work as a serious crime, stressing extreme violence and the contempt shown against the victim.
The event took place in May 2023 at a residence in Wewey. The victim, a mother of four, including a girl in common with the accused, had decided to end his relationship with 45-year-old. According to the court's ruling, the man had refused to separate and had stabbed him several times before leaving the scene and then handed himself over to the authorities in Thun.
During the trial, the convicted had denied that he had planned the murder and had declared that he did not recall the details of the event. He had claimed to have reacted to a moment of anger after a conflict with his partner, writes the newspaper “Le Mattin“, broadcast Clankosova.tv.
But the court rejected this version. The court estimated that he had prepared the act several days earlier and that his motive was linked to his refusal to accept separation and loss of control over the partner.
The judges described his guilt as extremely heavy “”, while naming crime as the disgusting “”. According to them, the violence exercised against the victim showed a total “contempt against it”.
In addition to serving 20 years in prison for serious murder, the court has also imposed a therapeutic measure in a closed institution. This measure could affect extending his stay in prison even after the sentence is completed, potentially beyond 2046, broadcast Clankosova.tv.
The court rejected the Public Prosecution's request for permanent exile after a psychiatric expertise had found a slight reduction in criminal responsibility because of a mental disorder.
