Police activities undertaken to ensure the prosperity of the electoral process under “Pre-election elections for the Kosovo Republic Assembly”, including the voting phase held during the day, have been realised in full compliance with the operational planning and first police measures.
The implementation of the operational plan, the professional commitment of police officials, as well as close inter-institute co-ordination and co-ordination have influenced the election process to develop into a safe, secure environment and without major incidents that could affect or prevent its course. Based on operational and security assessments, the election process is characterised by calm, order and overall stability.
One of the main objectives of the operational police plan has been to ensure a secure environment for the exercise of voting rights, identification, investigation and prosecution of any illegal action that could violate the integrity of the election process, as well as the enterprise of legal measures against all persons who clash with legal provisions in power.
To successfully accomplish these objectives, Kosovo Police have engaged its human and logistical resources capacities, including 6300 police officials, 720 police vehicles with about 320 reaction patrols, with officials of various profiles, patrol officials, investigators, intelligence officials, border officials, traffic officials and special units who have been on alert.
In continued co-operation and co-ordination with the State Prosecutor, Kosovo Police today have initiated 17 criminal cases linking with the election process for criminal acts: The signing of the election secrecy, the elimination of voting documents, the use of voting rights, and the payment of bribes in connection with voting. Regarding these cases, five suspected persons have been sent to maintenance.
A total of 53 information of different natures has been accepted and addressed during the implementation of police duties, where, after assessing circumstances and lack of random elements, no further legal procedures have been initiated.
Also, in co-operation with competent justice bodies, other cases of different natures have been addressed and prosecuted, which have not been related to the electoral process.
It is noteworthy that Kosovo police have dealt professionally and impartially with any information and reporting that has been related to the election process, as well as continued to carry out their legal duties and responsibilities in dealing with other cases of public security.
Police activities planned for today have been successfully and in line with operational targets, thanks to excellent interilateral co-operation, engagement of security structures and the high level of civic culture shown by citizens of the Republic of Kosovo. For this co-operation and contribution to maintaining the order, security and integrity of the democratic process, Kosovo police express their gratitude and thanks to all citizens.
