Kusari: KPMA is acting in favour of Vetevendosje complaints

Media jurist Butter Kosari expressed concern about the way the Independent Media Commission is handling complaints, assessing that the practice so far raises questions about this institution's impartiality.
She said a analysis that is being prepared on KPM decisions has highlighted a certain pattern of decision-making.
“I would like to discuss the standards KPM uses when using such language through the studio. And the answer from an analysis that we're doing and that we're hoping to finish soon, which has to do with the meritive aspect of KPM decisions, is that it depends on who complains. So far, most of the decisions we have analysed, whenever Vetevendosje has complained, the KPM has approved that complaint and fined or sacrificed the media with money, or with remarks”, she said.
According to Kusari, in some cases procedures have been initiated against the media even when there was no formal request from the Vetevendosje Movement, but when criticism of this party has been made in television debates.
Also, the other part of the analysis is that in some cases when the Vetevendosje Movement has been criticised in television studio, but Vetevendosje has not filed a complaint, The KPM has made sure that ex officio, under official duty, begins the case against those Serbian media”, the lawyer said in Klan Kosova.
She added there are dilemmas regarding the role the KPM is exercising in relation to media pluralism and freedom of expression.
“I'm not sure, the KMP is there to preserve media pluralism, make sure we have enough media, or media that we now have with different views, or is a legal office that monitors on behalf of Vetevendosje and pronounces sanctions on behalf of Vetevendosje. Sometimes the impression is that KPM is acting as a legal office for Vetevendosje Movement, or what's worse, as a kind of court”, she said.
