OBS Director Hantavirus is no other COVID, its risk remains low

O Header BSH has written to Tenerife residents to assure them that"ky is not another COVID-19"

"E know you're concerned", Tedros Adhanom Ghebraesesus wrote in an open letter.

I know that when you hear the word"explosion"and see a ship sailing towards your shores, memories emerge that none of us have completely forgotten. The pain of 2020 is still real and I don't ignore it for a moment", he added.

Chief of O BSH stressed that the current public health risk of the virus"remains low".

"This is O assessment BSH's and we don't make it easy", Ghebraesesus continued.

Full Posting:

For the people of Tenerife, my name is Tedros, and I serve as director general of the agency responsible for global public health. It's not common for me to write directly to people in a single community, but today I think it's not only appropriate, but it's necessary. I want to talk directly to you, not through press reports or technical information, but as a human being with another, because you deserve this.

I know you're worried. I know that when you hear the word <x0... we're going"and you see a ship sailing toward your shores, memories emerge that none of us have completely forgotten. The pain of 2020 is still real and I don't ignore it for a moment. But I need you to hear me clearly: This is not another. COVID-19. The current public health risk from the hantavirus remains low.

My colleagues and I have said this without question and I will tell you again now. The virus aboard MV Hondius is the type of Andes hantavirus. It's serious. Three people have lost their lives and our hearts are with their families. The danger for you, living your daily life in Tenerife, is low. This is O assessment. BSH and we don't make it easy. Actually, there are no passengers with symptoms on board.

An O expert BSH's on that ship. Medical supplies are in place. Spanish authorities have prepared a careful plan step by step: passengers will be transported to the shore to the industrial port of Granadillas, away from residential areas, on closed and guarded vehicles, through a fully surrounded corridor and repatriated directly to their countries of origin. You won't. Your families won't.

I mean something else, something that goes beyond science. I personally thanked Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez for Spain's decision to take this ship. I called it an act of solidarity and moral duty. Because that's what it is. I want you to know that O request BSH to Spain was made in full accordance with International Health Rules, legally binding framework defining countries' rights and obligations and O When they react to public health events with international concern.

Under these regulations, the closest port with adequate medical capacity must be identified to ensure the safety and dignity of those on board.

Tenerife fulfilled that standard.

Nearly 150 people from 23 countries have been at sea for weeks, some in grief, all fearful, all longing for the house. Tenerife has been chosen because it has medical capacity, infrastructure and humanity to help them achieve security.

And because I believe so deeply in this, I'll be there myself. I intend to travel to Tenerife to observe this operation closely, to stand by health workers, port staff and officials that are making it happen, and to personally express my honor to an island that has responded to a difficult situation with kindness, solidarity and compassion.

Your humanity deserves to be testified, not just to be accepted from a distance. As I have said many times: viruses don't care about politics and they don't respect borders. The best immunity any of us have is solidarity. Tenerife is demonstrating this solidarity today.

The ship's captain, Jan Dobrogowski, the crew and company operating the ship have shown exemplary co-operation at this challenging time.

On behalf of the World Health Organization and on behalf of those passengers and their families worldwide, I thank the people of Tenerife and everyone involved. Please take care of yourself and each other. Believe in the preparations that have been made. And know that O The BSH is with you and every person on that ship, every step of the way. With respect, care and gratitude, Tedros. /Periscope
