Food safety alert in Austria, as poison for rats has been discovered in a jar of baby food.
Police disclosed that toxic substances were identified in a product with carotas and potatoes from the HiPP company, initially reported by a client. After laboratory tests, the sample proved positive for poison, raising serious public health concerns.
The event has led to the urgent withdrawal of product by several brands, where about 1,500 subjects in Austria have been affected by preventive measures.
Authorities in the Burgenland region suggest that the jars had damaged covers, lack of a safety stamp, or unusual smell. Meanwhile, investigations have extended even abroad, as similar samples in the Czech Republic and Slovakia have also shown the presence of toxic substances.
According to company Hi PPThere is doubt that outside criminal interference in the distribution chain, stressing that consumer consumption can be life threatening.
Meanwhile, citizens are advised not to consume purchased products and turn them into retail stores.
The event has turned to food safety in Europe, while further developments are expected from ongoing investigations.
