Three to four cups a day connected with 35% lower risk of cirrhosis and liver cancer, as well as 41% less deaths from liver disease. Five or more cups were accompanied by 32% lower risk of cirrhosis, 47% liver cancer reductions, and 42% less deaths from liver disease.

These are significant figures for something as common as a daily cup of coffee,” said dietologist Lauren Manacker, who was not included in the study. But she stressed that “these are related, not proof of the” cause.

Researchers also found that the benefits to those who added sugar or candy were slightly lower but similar. However, caution is recommended with the amount of sugar, artificial sweets, and processed creams.

Participants who used sweeties also had higher signs of inflammation in the liver, Kim said.


The American Heart Association recommends limiting sugar to no more than 6% of daily calories, while the FDA recommends restricting caffeine to 400 mg per day for healthy adults (about 2,500 cups of 12-tonn coffee).

To avoid affecting sleep, experts suggest that at least 6 hours before sleep, coffee is not consumed.

Coffee drinks were also found to be related to healthier liver protein profiles, less fat and inflammation.

However, the study has certain limitations: Coffee consumption is measured only at first and after 10 years, which may not accurately reflect long - term habits. And more than 90% of participants were Europeans and relatively cautious about health, so the results may not apply equally to other populations.

Researchers stressed that further research is needed to confirm these findings in different groups of people.

However, antioxidants in coffee, regardless of caffeine, can reduce inflammatory processes that lead to liver damage.

In addition to the liver, other studies have linked coffee to lower risk for Type 2, heart disease, stroke, degeneration, and other chronic diseases.
