Joseph: New institutional uncertainty in Kosovo could weaken international support from US, EU, NATO

American professor Edward Joseph said that Kosovo is not in a situation where it is difficult to form a government due to narrow election results, but because of the resistance of leadership, it is facing a new political crisis, which, according to him, will further exacerbate relations with Washington and [...]
Joseph said that he claims that the Constitutional Court will decide not to share Kosovo's Parliament, but that the situation in Kosovo “is certainly not good” and that the new elections are in no one's interest.
“This is an unnecessary crisis and what we should hope for is for the Constitutional Court to decide that the Parliament has not been dissolved, that there is another possibility for the Parliament to act before Kosovo goes to new elections, which is not in anyone's interest. This is not a standard political crisis in which you have narrow results and it is very difficult to form a government, so you have to go to new elections. This is a case in which you have a complete opportunity to form a government, but there is a rejection and stubbornness of leadership in Kosovo to understand that it should simply continue with the election of President”, Joseph told the Serbian-language medium “Kosovo Online”.
Joseph believes the new political stalemate could further strain relations between Pristina and Washington, as well as the European Union, because, as he adds, no one wants any more chaos.
“Who should see the most chaos? This is an artificial crisis, an ego crisis and lack of leadership and is not in the interest of Kosovo”.
He also stressed that the new institutional uncertainty could weaken international support for Kosovo from the US, the EU and NATO, noting that Pristina is sending a bad signal inciting artificial crises.
When you prove that you are in a constitutional crisis completely unnecessary, artificial after a long-term inability to form a government, what message are you sending? Are you sending a message that you are capable of being a full partner? No, this is simply giving arguments to Kosovo opponents, including, of course, those in Serbia. This is a completely wrong signal, unnecessary. There is a very simple solution. If the Constitutional Court decides that the Assembly has not been completely dissolved and that elections should not be held yet, then the leadership must unite and support Osman, if not for any other reason, then for the interests of Kosovo and avoid a” crisis, Joseph said.
