Prosecutor says justice for Izbica victims is also a moral and historical obligation, defence expects a legal act for Alidemaj

At Tuesday's session at the Constitutional Court in Pristina, in the retrial against Muhamet Alidemaj, indicted for war crimes in Izbiica in 1999, in the final address prosecutor Ili Morina demanded the conviction of the accused, while Alidemaj's defence said they expect a free trial. According to the indictment, Alidemaj had joined forces [...]

According to the indictment, Alidemaj had participated along with members of Serbian police and military forces in the murder of Albanian civilians in the Izbica massacre that had occurred in March 1999, where 130 Albanians had been killed and massacred, reports “Best for Justice”, broadcasts Periscope.

During the final address, the prosecutor of the case, Ilir Morina, said that the administered evidence has proved beyond the well-based suspicion that Izbica's bastard is a historical and judicial fact confirmed by international courts for the former Yugoslavia.

On March 28th 1999, 138 Albanian civilians were executed, 140 victims identified, 12 persons survived execution. Women and children were deported to Albania, houses of the village were systematically burned. Film footage, victims' lists, and the evidence of survivors make this event untenable”, Morina said.

He said the evidence on this issue is numerous, sustainable and convincing.

The judiciary for Izbica victims is not only legal issue, but moral and historical obligation”, the prosecutor added.

So he asked the Court to condemn accused Alidemaj by law and to continue the detention measure until the integrity of the court.

While the representative of the Office for the Protection of Victims, Veton Rudaku, said surviving witnesses to this massacre, during the testimony, have identified the accused as the person they had seen on the 28 March 1999 day in the village of Izbica, heading towards Serb forces.

So Rudaku proposed to the Court that he pronounce a criminal judgment and that Alidemaj be pronounced a merit sentence.

While defendant Muhamet Alidaj's defender, lawyer Milos Deleviq, said no witness has told his defense that he killed, gave orders, burned, robbed or even expelled residents. According to him, the court has only one way, that of releasing the accused.

On the other hand, lawyer Dejan Vasic said that neither at the beginning of this procedure has there been evidence nor now sʹka, stressing that he supports lawyer Delevic in giving the final word.

While accused Muhamet Alidemaj said he supports his defenders and has nothing to add. /Periscope/
