Pristina municipality opens competition for Memorial Memorial Memorial Project “Adem Jashari”

According to the competition file, this memorial aims to perpetuate the unique sacrifice of the Yasar family from Skywright Preskazi, which represents one of the most zenithic cases of readiness for superhuman freedom sacrifice.

The collapse of Kosovo Liberation Army Commander Adem Jashar, along with 58 members of his family, including children, women and elders, is considered a special event in human history on behalf of the universal ideal of freedom. According to the project's vision, the memorial will be placed in one of the potential public spaces in the capital, in order for this sublimate sacrifice to become an integral part of urban daily life and the manifestation of freedom in public space, through continued interaction with citizens.

The project is also in line with the vision of Pristina's president, Progress Rama, for a contemporary, comprehensive capital and a beacon of cultural heritage. The Jashar family memorial is expected to contribute to strengthening the city's cultural and historical identity.

As far as the location is concerned, the memorial is provided to be built in downtown Pristina, between the Republic of Kosovo building and the Stone Mosque. It will be part of the project to connect the existing promenade that ends with “Ibrahim Rugova” Square and its continuation towards the old part of the city, via subpass on “Agim Ramadani” road.

Under this urban project, the “Agim Ramadani” road will become underground, while the top part will be converted into pedestrian plaque, enabling the functional link between existing boulevard and the old city. It's just on this plaque that the design of the memorial and the space around it is also subject to the competition.
