Minesta Congresswoman Ilhan Omar attacked with an unknown liquid during the municipal meeting

The sprinkled liquid over Omar had a sour smell that was similar to a chemical product, according to a BBC journalist in the hall.

Anthony James Kazmierczak, 55, has been charged with third degree assault and is being held in custody, according to the local sheriff's office.

After the incident, Omar, a Democrat, told the hall that “we will continue, we are strong in Minnesota”.

Another participant, Alfred Flowers Jr, told the BBC that he “respected its courage and strength to stay yet and complete the municipality for people”.

The video from the scene shows the team screaming “make a hole” while getting the man out of the room.

As he was pushed out of the room, he said Omar was “na drew against each other”. It was not immediately clear to whom the man was referring.

Kazmieczak was arrested immediately and forensic expertise was being conducted on the scene, according to police report. Telegraph, broadcast Periscope.

In a social media post, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said: “Dhuna and intimidation have no place in Minneapolis. We may disagree without putting people at risk. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated in our town”.

In 2019, Omar became the first Somali-American American, the first African-born American and one of the first two American Muslim women to serve at the U.S. Congress. The event was one of the city's regular halls organised by Omar, and about 100 people were present in the northern basement of Minneapolis, waiting to hear about the presence of federal immigration officials in their town and ask questions after the second fatal shooting of an American citizen by immigration officials this month. /Periscope/
