Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that “the international community will hear from Israel” as countries decide to recognise a Palestinian state.
The UK, Canada and Australia have recognised the Palestinian state on Sunday, despite US opposition.
The move is largely symbolic, but the United Kingdom hopes it can increase diplomatic pressure to end the Gaza conflict and pave the way for lasting peace.
This comes before the UN General Assembly this week, where other countries, including France, Portugal and Belgium, are also preparing to recognise a Palestinian state.
More than 140 countries have already taken steps to recognise a Palestinian state, but the decisions of France and Britain are important since both are members of the Seventh Group and the UN Security Council. /Periscope/
