From the promise of righteousness to silence the scandal: Albin Kurti and the chain of corruption that rocked Kosovo
Freedom Mehmetaj, former editor-in-chief of Albanian Post, knew well the risk he expected when he started publishing corruption scandals involving senior government officials Kurti.
He had spent months meeting his source... a man who had seen everything closely and who, tired of silence and impunity, decided to speak.
When the first scripture was published, “Nagip Krasniqi's Dallas: How he unlawfully awarded the tender over 630 thousand euros to the Greek company”, reactions were immediate and vicious. The next article, “Nagip Krasniqi's Dallas: It illegally secured the Greek company's 1m-600-euro tender”, which shocked Vetevendosje and the public.
At that time, however, very few believed.
Vetevendosje's keyboard case, as it is already called, was attacked. He was personally attacked, publicly lyncated, and called a opposition <x0vlle” spreading lies. It was a deliberate campaign to delegate not only Mehmetaj but also the investigative journalism he represented.
He had competed for the annual award in journalism on two topics that caught the top of corruption.
This is the reward rejection from an association that I had created, I told Lerim, when I asked him why these best writing-level research had not received any prize from the Kosovo Journalists' Association.
The answer was that the hot and tasteless scepticism of the AGK was replaced by an undeniable reality when published documents and messages uncovered a chain of corruption that led to the top of power at Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
In documents obtained and published by Mehmetaj, yesterday and today, messages from a group organised in the Whatsapp uncovered a well-coordinated scheme of multimillion tenders sharing.
In the group were names known as Nagip Krasniqi, Besnik Bislimi, Artane Rizvanolli, and others. From manipulation of technical specifications to providing contracts without competition, each step was carefully planned.
One of the most shocking messages mentioned that a 60-day delay could cost the state an additional 20m euros, but the tender was issued without competition, with personal criteria for a specific company.
Albanian Post writings had already documented the favouring of companies appointed by Nagip Krasniqi and the granting of tenders illegally, including one of over 1.6m euros.
Now, with such communications coming to light, the fact that this corruption extended to the top of the government became clear. Evidence delivered to the Special Prosecutor showed a system built on silence, manipulation and exploitation of public resources for private gain.
In the midst of this storm, Prime Minister Albin Kurti refused to appear as a witness at the Special Prosecutor.
This refusal raises serious questions about his political responsibility and the integrity of the government he leads.
The refusal to testify in the prosecutor clearly shows why Prime Minister Kurti does not go to fulfill his obligation.
How can you seek the faith of the people when you avoid facing a truth that includes those close to you in your administration? For many, Kurt's refusal is an indication of the unwillingness to face reality and a blow to his image as the leader of honesty.
The question that remains unanswered involves Kurt.
When he faces messages that witness corruption to the root, what does it mean? Will he accept moral responsibility for a system that he has promised to cleanse, or will he keep silent?
For a man who built his career on oath of honesty and fighting corruption, this confrontation is not only a legal challenge, but a test of his political, moral and human character. Because in his ignorance with no idea of government, only morality was part of his confession.
Without morale, he's callous.
This history of governance is not only about tenders and manipulations; it is a mirror of a system's failure to keep its powers responsible. Corruption is not just a violation of law ʹ is a betrayal of citizens who have hoped for a better future.
When Albin and the other four on the list forget their responsibility, democracy becomes a bitter farce. As it seems, the face of Faithful Bislem every time he comes in front of the cameras.
A moral liar.
In the end, citizens expect a simple answer: What does Albin Kurti mean before the citizens who trusted his vision? Silence is no longer an option. The truth is already in the light. And with him, responsibility.
The Special Prosecutor's Document, signed by Ymer Dragusha, contains the plea for misusing the official position. This was not just an individual matter; it was an admission that lifted weight over the entire decision - making chain to the top of the pyramid of power. Despite that, however, the structure seems to remain intact and powerful.
In this rotten scheme, everything was based on a simple fact: Corruption became a way of life.
Discussions in the Whatsapp group were so common and open that nobody seemed to care about the consequences. It was a clear reflection of the culture of impunity.
