It says: Kryeziu Ishmaels
For years, the north has been used as a cover to avoid addressing real challenges that hinder the progress of our society, such as reforms needed in economic development, good governance and fighting corruption.
We continue to face the lack of ethics and integrity in government, lack of necessary reforms in education and health, with high profile officials charged with misuse of public positions, with inefficient judiciary in punishing corruption, with tenders of high-profile political companies.
Nepotism and politicisation of boards with militants and party activists continue to be a problem.
Still today, more than meritocracy as a value, party literature and party service are the only standard for employment and success in business.
This lack of compensation and commitment has affected key sectors such as economy, education and health, hindering social progress and improving living conditions for citizens. The problems are many, and we can expand their list, giving them more specific dimensions that affect gender equality, youth, economic migration, pensioners and many other marginalised categories.
Therefore, on the eve of parliamentary elections, when political parties, their leaders and potential candidates have begun to present programmes, ideas and promises, citizens have a unique opportunity to search for and elect representatives who are truly committed to improving living conditions for all.
This is the time when we, as citizens, should actively engage, read and evaluate party and candidate programmes, participate in public debates, and seek representatives of integrity and competence for public responsibilities.
The electoral process is more than a day of voting this period has begun, and it is an opportunity for each of us to be informed voters, to influence to push forward ideas, and to select programmes, parties and MPs dedicated to key reforms such as the economy, education, health and fight against corruption.
Active participation in this period is crucial.
