Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has reacted sharply after three Kosovo Police members from the ranks of the Serb community have resigned, about a month from starting work.
She said the resignation of police from the Serbian community is the direct result of continuing threats and intimidation from Serbia.
The resignation of police from the Serb community is a direct result of continuing threats and intimidation from Serbia. This is evidence that the policies of this state continue to reflect Milosevic's” tactics, Osmani wrote on the X platform.
The president has pledged that the state will continue to ensure the involvement of all communities in all Kosovo institutions.
We will make Kosovo safer for all”, Osmani has added.
And the chief of EULEX, Giovanni Pietro Barbano, has said they are following the resignations of three newly recruited Serb policemen in the Kosovo Police.
“I am looking to the recent resignations of three newly recruited Kosovo Serb members, at the Kosovo Police (PK). EULEX is closely following these disturbing developments”, Barbano wrote.
Chief EULEX also said that “non-combat members of the KP can contribute to the security of their communities through their community-oriented work. The mission is dedicated to supporting KP efforts aimed at developing effective, efficient, representative and responsible police in the wider area of rule of law”.
The resignation of three Serbian police officers has also reacted to the American and German ambassador.
Ambassador Jeffrey Havenier through a post on the social network X has written that he is following developments with concern.
According to him, Kosovo Police exist to serve all communities in Kosovo, and its officials should be able to work without intimidation.
We fully share these concerns and repeat our commitment to the multiethnic Kosovo police force. As I have said many times, Kosovo police exist to serve all communities in Kosovo, and its officials should be able to work without intimidation. Looking closely at these” developments, Havener wrote.
German Ambassador to Kosovo Jorn Rohde in a post on the social network “X”, former Twitter, has said a multiethnic country requires a multiethnic police.
Rohde added that police, indiscriminately whose ethnic group they belong to, must carry out the task fearlessly.
“I completely agree: a multiethnic country requires a multiethnic police. All members of the Kosovo Police no matter which ethnic group they belong to should be able to carry out their duties without intimidation”, Ambassador Rohde wrote.
And the prosecution against Belgrade over the resignation of three policemen has made former KFOR spokeswoman Vicenzo Grasso.
He has declared it no surprise and that Serbia does not support initiatives aimed at integrating Serbs to Kosovo. He even says Belgrade does this through the Serbian List.
This is no surprise. Belgrade, through the Serbian List, has always sabotaged any initiative that leads to the integration of Serbs for the development of multinational peaceful society in Kosovo. They've always done this, and we've always tolerated it without a hard fight against this” behavior, Grasso said.
Grasso made this comment in the post of EULEX chief Giovanni Barbano on Twitter, who said the mission he is closely following the latest developments with the resignations of Serbs from Kosovo Police, which he called disturbing. /Telegraph
