Lushaku-Sadriu: The values of the Gervala s'do would need to be had never a Kosovo top diplomat, populism is damaging Kosovo

Political developments in the country have no end, especially those related to the country's north and the process of dialogue with Serbia. Kosovo has already been brought into punishment by the European Union, and punishments are also considering our small country's biggest international partner, the US. What does Jehona Lushak Sadriu, chairman of [...]

What do you think of Jehona Lushak Sadriu, chairman of the women's forum in LDK?

In this interview for Nacional she as a connoisseur of international relations explains much at this time of political stir.

National: Mrs. Lushaku-Sadriu, Kosovo for the first time is under EU punitive measures. What is the LDK's position on this situation?

Lushaku-Sadriu: The LDK has expressed its concern over the political situation in which Kosovo is located many times. The uncoordinated actions of Kurti Government in northern Kosovo received negative international reactions and brought punitive measures for our country. Although, of course, trying to impose order and law is legitimate, this could be done in co-ordination with international security structures having mandates in Kosovo and not causing an unnecessary clash with friendly states. Kosovo as a state is being punished for the first time in its history by friendly states. For the first time, Serbia is also looking better than Kosovo in the eyes of our allies, and this is the loss of Kosovo's international position. Because of the Kurti Government, which is irresponsible and irresponsible, Kosovo is suffering. That's obvious.

National: Now the LDK has launched a new route, holding consultative meetings with different categories of Kosovo society. What does this road mean?

Lushaku-Sadriu: It is an initiative launched by President Abdixhiku to create a new route for the Republic of Kosovo, due to Kosovo Government's confrontational policies with its historic allies and the endangering of Kosovo's sovereignty and international position. This initiative will take shape after a super-replacemental process of important society groups, which believe in Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic journey, which will contribute to shaping this initiative. The first meeting with journalists has given a strong push and prompted a critical move that requires reflection on future actions. We are going to meet with civil society organisations, university professors and former diplomats; and businesses from the private sector in the country.

National: What are the goals the LDK wants to achieve this way?

Lushaku-Sadriu: In addition to discussing ideas about common Euro-Atlantic travel, we aim to identify concrete proposals for exits from the current crisis, from a troubled situation, even potentially explosive tensions, and from isolation. The LDK intends to come up with new proposals for new roads as it desperately wants to preserve the state of Kosovo and our alliances. We consider it an urgent need for Kosovo to act in co-ordination with international friends for extending the situation and responsible actions in relation to the international factor.

National: Some LDK officials have warned of the possibility of boycotting the Parliament's work. Can we expect such a thing?

Lushaku-Sadriu: All options are possible if this government does not reflect on the damage it is causing the country. We cannot continue to ignore all the losses that are being inflicted on our country by punitive measures and at the same time the stubborn and pointless ignoring of international counsel. Kosovo must show that it is a responsible state that implements international obligations in order to ensure international security and to enter unrevocably and irreversibly into European and NATO integration. All of our strategic goals for integration, for Kosovo part of the international system, are being put at risk.

National: The international community has warned that punitive measures against Kosovo could escalate. What will the LDK's actions be if this happens?

Lushaku-Sadriu: We are in a difficult phase of recession in both domestic development and international reports. The escalation of punitive measures will be with immediate effects for the country and citizens by isolating the country, deprived the country of international networks and unable to access funds. We must remember that the EU and US invest hundreds of millions of euros/dollars annually in various sectors, through different programmes for the country's construction and democratisation. If the measures escalate, our response will escalate and we believe citizens' response to the government, which is why this is happening.

National: Can we expect this party to organise or support protests against Kurti Government?

Lushaku-Sadriu: We will use all forms of our protest expression to the harmful attitudes and actions of the Government: in the Parliament, in the public and in the streets if necessary.

National: The AAK is seeking the collapse of the government by no-confidence motion, while the PDK is seeking agreement on the dissolution of the Assembly to go to new elections. Do the LDK support any of these ideas?
Lushaku-Sadriu: It is important that we seriously understand Kosovo's international position and react responsibly. We have said that we want Kosovo to install a democratic election cycle with fair elections every four years. But when a party with high electoral support -- more precisely with great power -- fails to produce neither domestic development nor international achievements -- normally it does not deserve to govern. For this, however, opposition parties must also provide support from citizens. We will do everything possible to communicate with citizens and jointly build our way forward. Kurti government is not allowed to endanger our state and our historic alliances.

National: Chief diplomat Donika Gervala during her participation in the Dubrovnik Forum has criticised the EU, calling it a literary tiger. How did you see her statement?

Lushaku-Sadriu: To make a cynical statement offensive to the EU, which matches Mao Zedong's statement to the US, is harmful to Kosovo. It is of total responsibility, the fact that a minister chooses to use undiplomatic and insulting language against friendly states at international conferences. But, obviously this is the truth of what Mr. Gervala, which would never have to have a Kosovo foreign minister. The American emissary's reaction, Mr. Eskobar gave the weight of damage this declaration will cost Kosovo. Let us not forget that the European Union remains the goal of Kosovo anchored in the constitution and the largest post-war contributor. Most EU states are our friendly states, and reports with them should be maintained with responsibility and partnership. On the contrary, this government seems to have chosen to represent the pro - European and pro - American people by anti - European and anti - American languages. This paradox will be marked in history.

National: This is not the first time Gervala makes such statements. How much could such attitudes damage Kosovo?

Lushaku-Sadriu: Kosovo has already been damaged by the statements, and the entire populist discurs of the government Kurti -- namely, Minister Gervala -- who both inside and outside Kosovo play words for political theatres without wanting to hear about the damage they cause. Citizens are often entertained in social networks with these puny games, but in international reports this approach is costing Kosovo in isolation. Eventually, these statements testify without political responsibility with historical damage, and as such, they are unacceptable.
