The chairman of the pensioners association: The government is ignoring us the most banal way

Kosovo's government has adopted amendments to the Law on Pensions, enabling pensioners who have left their jobs in the years of 1990s to benefit from the payment pension. And Kosovo Pensioner Association Chairman Nijazi Gashi in an interview for “Index” says that even though delayed this is a positive step. But he fears that the approval in the Assembly will be delayed.

I can evaluate it as a positive step towards resolving the issue of many problems that have the third age category of pensioners. But you better get out later. Even though they've been taken a right in accounting for years of retirement. It is good that it has been done and is now expected to see how the government will reflect further. Because that's just one step, because you have to be approved in the country”, he said.

But Gashi does not save criticism at the government's address. He claims that the government is continuing to abuse the issue of pensioners and that with its approach, it does not want to solve the pension issue.

“has been abused with this issue for pensioners. That 24 years of pensioners have been unjustly penalised. This issue that has been resolved through the Constitutional Court is only 1/10 of violations that the Government made to Kosovo pensioners in accounting, through this current law on pension schemes. The pension issue is not resolved and there is no solution to the way the government is approaching this problem. The government will not settle the pension issue. Pensions are selected through the foundation of the pension insurance fund”, he said.

While he said the current government is not accepting their request, to be part of teams in drafting the new Law draft. Gashi claims there are a host of abuses being done to pensioners, such as classifying pensions, where academic titles are not included. As another violation, he cites and does not compensate pensions on the basis of inflation that occurs annually. According to him, even though the Government is obliged to make the inflation index assessment each year and on the basis of material opportunities to freeze pensions, it has never done that.

Gashi even says pensioners remain the most despised and abused category by institutions.

“We are the most despised and socially abused category. I'm from society, because the representatives of our society are the Parliament and the Government of Kosovo. We are the category our government and society are most abusing. But it's to worry that this government is coming in a class that is bypassing and ignoring the entire civil society in Kosovo, part of which we pensioners are and we are a category that deserve respect and human kindness towards us. Because we don't have our generation in a backpack and now fill me with the goods of freedom. Instead, we've contributed a lot and this freedom we're enjoying. . Today, however, we are ignored in the way possible banal by our governments, especially this government, he said.

Gashi also said he was ignored by Prime Minister Kurti, Chief Prime Minister Konjufca and Minister Murati. According to him, though he has several times applied for the meeting, his meeting with Minister Iron Murati has been impossible, parliamentary leader Glauk Konjufca and Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who have not accepted the meeting.
