Top Channel learns that this agreement is expected to be signed by both sides in September, either by Prime Ministers Edi Rama and Rishi Sunak or by British Justice Minister with Albanian counterpart Ulsi Manja.
“Supporting Article 100 of Constitution and Article 10, of Law No.43/2016, “for international agreements in the Republic of Albania”, with the proposal of Justice Minister, the Council of Ministers, decided:
The approval, in principle, of the agreement's implementation agreement, between the Republic of Albania and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, for the transfer of convicted persons, according to the text that joins that decision and is an integral part of it. This decision goes into effect immediately, says the VKM.
This agreement allows for the return of those who received the right to transfer and those who have been sentenced to more than four years. The prisoners will carry out the rest of their sentence near the family. Thus, 200 Albanian prisoners in England and Wales prisons suffering four years or more sentences will return in the next two years to carry out the rest of the sentence in Albanian prisons. Thanks to the deal, the British side will pay the housing costs of prisoners for the duration of their sentences in Albania.
