The Serbian state insists on lifting visas for Kosovo Serbs, the cut European Commission: Liberalisation rate for passports issued by Serbia

Serbia has asked the European Commission to annul the visa obligation decision for Kosovo's Serb citizens, who are equipped with second-hand Serbian passports issued by the Co-ordination Administration in Belgrade. Kosovo-based citizens of Serbia have travel documents issued by this administration. [...]

Kosovo-based citizens of Serbia have travel documents issued by this administration. There is no precise data on the exact number of passports issued by the Co-ordination Administration, but those holding those passports may be the only ones that will have to apply for visas to travel to EU countries when visa liberalisation for Kosovo comes into force on January 1st, 2024.

Belgrade has been insisting for years that this problem be solved, while Pristina calls on Serbs to receive Kosovo passports, since the New Year to travel freely.

In the European Union, they express their determination to ensure that all citizens of the Western Balkans are involved in the visa-free regime, but Belgrade insists that the issue regarding passports issued by the Co-ordination Administration is resolved and expects this to happen by the end of this year.

But, by the European Commission, they have reiterated that Serbs with passports of the Co-ordination Directorate do not benefit from the visa-free regime for Kosovo, report Online Reporter.net.

The EC spokeswoman told Euronews in the Serbian language that while progress is being made with visa liberalisation for Kosovo, the European Union is determined to ensure that all citizens of the Western Balkans get involved in the visa-free regime and that conditions for safe travel are provided.

We remember that formally the entire visa liberalisation process for Kosovo citizens has already been completed.

The decision is expected to go into effect on January 1st 2024 since Kosovo citizens possessing biometric passports issued by the state of Kosovo will be able to travel visa-free to what is known as the Schengen area and consist of 27 European states. /Reporter.net
