Economic recognitions are estimated that during the two years of government, Kurti has had a lack of capital investments. Safet Gerjaliu told Kosovo Radio that the focus should not be solely on fighting corruption, as the lack of capital investments has greatly damaged Kosovo's economy.
Each step leading to the fight against corruption has its own positive effect. However, it must be understood that it should not only be the focus to fight corruption if there is no investment in capital projects. Unfortunately, such an impasse has damaged Kosovo's economy because the main partner for implementation and development is the private sector”, Gerjaliu has said.
Also, Gerjaliu said 2023 is expected to have the record budget, which will be 3 billion and 200m euros. But if Kosovo is going to have this impasse, it will not be corruption, but that there will be no economic development, Gerjaliu said.
The “in this direction is expected to be a record 2023 year with a budget of 3 billion and 200m euros, with large contributors to this budget being the private sector. If we have this drowning, there will be no corruption, but there will be no economic development. Economic development which is very necessary for Kosovo. I say this based on the fact that the government dictatorship is a minority budget expense and the lack of real communication between the central and the local level is a new derogatory”, Gerjaliu added.
For drafting this prime minister's strategy, Kurti has engaged an investigative commission that will be led by Finance Minister Hekuran Murati and members Jelal Svechla, Albulen Hadziu and Artane Rizvanolli.
Kosovo has been targeted for years by criticism of various international institutions and organisations for high levels of corruption. The last was the US State Department, which in a report published on March 20th, has pointed out that Kosovo has “serious government corruption”.
