Germany's ambassador to Kosovo, Jorn Rohde, has warned the opposition not to use the Association theme for domestic political games. Rohde called on opposition parties to support the Franco-German plan, reminding them that Kosovo's closest partners stand firmly behind this proposal.

Rohde has stressed that the association has remained with the Kurti “heritage” government made up of today's opposition.

The “E know, there was a parliamentary debate Thursday, which lasted until after midnight. I follow their statements and what I can say is that it's not worth talking about the past, so it's pointless to talk about the topic of discussion about the Association of Serbian municipalities. There is a duty that has been carried by past governments to this government -- past governments -- that were made up of today's opposition. That government then composed of today's opposition had taken on obligations that it had not implemented, and now today's government must face that legacy”, Rohde has declared.

He asked the opposition to support the Franco-German plan until he mentioned their responsibility.

“Personally, from the opposition I expect state political responsibility, and in this case I want to underline once again that the entire international community, particularly Kosovo's closest partners, stand firmly behind this proposal. Therefore, I want to hope that the opposition will have constructive behaviour and that this super political theme will not be used for domestic political games as it had happened in the past. Now it's about ensuring the future and here everybody has their own political responsibility, particularly the opposition”, has declared. Rohde for Radio Kosovo.

Even the United States of America has expressed concern over statements made by the opposition for rejecting the European proposal.

This embassy response refers to objections that have recently surfaced the opposition parties -- the PDK's LDK -- to the EU proposal for normalising relations with Serbia that was orally accepted in Brussels on February 27th by Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbia's President Aleksandar Vuciq.

“We are concerned with statements made by leaders and opposition party officials expressing their opposition to the EU proposal. These views do not match US support for the” proposal, says the American Embassy spokesman.

In a statement issued to the online newspaper Reporter.net notes that the US has made it clear that it supports the facilitated dialogue by the European Union, and the European proposal for normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

The former “The United States has repeatedly made it clear that we support the relaxed dialogue from the EU. In particular, we fully support the EU proposal for the road to normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia. Our joint efforts to further this proposal have included consultations with Kosovo opposition parties”, the statement says.

Biden and Blinken also underlined strong support for the EU proposal to advance Kosovo towards regional stability and European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

On the highest levels of government, the US has made that support clear. President Biden and Secretary of State Blinken, in their latest communications on Kosovo Independence Day, underlined that the proposal has our strong support and will lead many Kosovo towards greater regional stability, economic prosperity and European and Euro-Atlantic integration”, the statement concludes.
