A main highway closed Wednesday afternoon because it was close to fire. Investigators in France are checking to find the cause of the fires.
French Interior Minister Gerald Darman announced that more firefighters are committed to curbing the fires. In total, more than 1,000 firefighters, nine planes and two helicopters have mobilized, he said.
Darman said there were “major changes” that fire “is the work of firemen”.
The Gironde region was hit last month by major fires that forced the evacuation of more than 39,000 people, including residents and tourists.
France is this week in the midst of its fourth heat wave of the year, while the country faces what the government warned is its worst drought in history.
