I've talked to many of these women and they all tell me they feel more protected by men and society, happier and increasingly integrated in the communities where they live by covering up.

A 14-year-old girl named Medina, who was praying today in Skanderbe Square, after agreeing to take a picture of her, told me that she was covered only for today on Bajram's day, but she is looking forward to covering her next year forever.

Sadly, I noticed no worries, no obligations, no dilemmas on her clean face.

During the past few months, I have asked many Muslim women under cover, older, to pose for me, and most have refused, putting their hand on their face or wrinkled by embarrassment.

Islam, traffic and men do not allow them to be photographed.

The opposite is true of young women.

They're friendly, they're laughing, they're excited, and they're talking about their religious reports with their friends and boys.
