Doubt of treason: Zelensky downloads dozens of Ukrainian officials

Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky has dismissed the Prosecutor General and head of the State Security Service. These dismissals come after reports that dozens of security services are now working against Ukraine's interests in Russia's occupied territories. By decree signed on July 17th, General Prosecutor Iryna [...] has been dismissed.

By decree signed on July 17th, the General Prosecutor, Iryna Venedicova, and Ivan Bakanov, head of the Ukraine Security Service, known as the SBU February.

In the statement, Zelensky, not to mention Venice and Bakanovin by name, said the <x0 specific actions and any inaction of officials in the security sector and law enforcement agencies would be assessed”.

He said that “by today, 651 criminal proceedings have been recorded in terms of the betrayal and co-bortional activities of workers of the Prosecutor's Office, investigative bodies and other law enforcement agencies”.

“in particular, over 60 employees of the Prosecutor's and SBU Office are located in occupied territories and are now working against our state”, Zelensky said.

“Such a crime group against the foundations of national security of the state and the registered links between Ukrainian security forces and Russia's special services raise serious questions for the respective leader”.

“Scila from these questions will get the right answer. Today, I have decided to dismiss the Attorney General and the head of the Ukrainian Security Service”, Zelensky said.

The duties of the Attorney General's Office have been handed over to Olexey Symonenko, said in one of the decrees. Symonenko has so far been a deputy general prosecutor.

Bakanov, a friend and former Zelensky business partner, has led the SBU since August 2019, meanwhile Venice had become the General Prosecutor in March 2020.

Neither Zelensky, but neither in signed decrees is indicated who will take over SBU leadership. / REL
