“We have told our relief friends that we will say no to Finland and Sweden as far as their entry into NATO and that we will continue on this” road, Erdogan said at a more student conference in Ankara.
“NATO is a security organisation and we cannot accept the presence of terrorist organisations there”, he said. Earlier this week Erdogan accused the two countries of hosting “Kurdish terrorist organisations”.
Erdogan referred to the Kurdish Workers' Party, which seeks an independent state in Turkey. The group has been in armed conflict with Ankara for decades and has been named a terrorist organisation by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
Finland and Sweden have a Kurdish community, even though Erdogan did not elaborate on whom he referred. /Periscopi/.
