American lawmakers have sent letters to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, where they have asked him to stop Russian influence in the Balkans.
This has been made known by former President Faton Bislim by means of a media communiqué.
Bislimi, who is also a member of the Albanian Civic League Board of Albanians, has said he has written 16 American congressmen and received answers from almost everyone.
“In related answers, I have been thanked for bringing the historical facts to their attention for Serbia that were left behind the text of their letter. With some of these congressmen, communication has continued and one of them has been attached to the Albanian Affairs Group in Congress”, he has said.
While yesterday, March 4th, five of those congressmen who had promoted Serbia in early February (as Mr. Cleyever, Mr. Cyril, Mr. Leeu, Mr. Leeu. Veasey, Mr. Schweider, have berated him for penetrate Russian and Chinese influence in the Western Balkans and for challenging democracy in the region! They have signed a letter from a group of 19 congressmen to Mr. Secretary of State. Blinken, through which the most direct and intense commitment of the United States in the Western Balkans is required to prevent the failure of democracy and total fall under the authoritarian tutelage of countries like Serbia and to ceppent Dodik of Republika Srpska for his anti-democratic actions in Bosnia”, is said in its communiqué.
Full announcement, no interference:
After my letter to all 16 American conventioners since early February had written to President Biden for Serbia, in my quality as executive member of the Albanian-American Civic League Board and former Kosovo Assembly delegations, I have been contacted and received very encouraging answers from telling me that most of them. In related answers, I have been thankful for bringing the historical facts to their attention for Serbia that were left behind the text of their letter. With some of these congressmen, communication has continued and one of them has joined the Albanian Affairs Group in Congress!
While yesterday, March 4th, five of those congressmen who had elevated Serbia in early February (as Mr. Blinken, through which more direct and intensive commitment is required by the United States of the Western Balkans to prevent the failure of democracy and total fall under the authoritarian tutelage of countries like Serbia and to ceppent Dodik of Republika Srpska for his anti-democratic actions in Bosnia. )
On the other hand, the letter in question of these 19 congressmen sets the alarm for Russia's growing political and security influence and of China, economically in the Western Balkan region, facts that I had discussed in my letter to February 4th. Even further than the day before, in my own opinion published in EurActiv (Pan-European media with headquarters in Brussels), I have called Serbia “Little Russia” of the Balkans, reconfirming the same arguments.
In this letter, it is called for finalisation of the comprehensive agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, as Kosovo is now 14 years apart and this reality must be accepted. Reaching this agreement opens up opportunities for development in the region and hinders external influence from malicious acts. )
The letter also requires the US government to intensify investments in the region; to help the EU accelerate enlargement towards the Western Balkans by assuming that Albania and Northern Macedonia have only met the conditions for EU membership; to prevent the risk for Bosnia and the Dayton Agreement by penalising Serbian leader Dodik; and to offer more support for democracy development in the region. )
The rise of Russian influence in the region and its military aggression against Ukraine are also more evidence than now the U.S. has to make it extremely clear that they measure up to democratic values in the Western Balkans and view that region as an important part of the transatlantic partnership, said at the end of this letter. /
