View: Albin Tahiri urges China to recognise Kosovo directly on Chinese state television

Skier Albin Tahiri has called on the Government of China to recognise Kosovo independently during an interview on Chinese state television Wednesday, saying she hopes that the hospitality China gave him and Kiana Kryeziu during the Winter Games will affect its decision to recognise Kosovo on it [...]
During this month, Kosovo was represented at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing by skiers Tahiri and Kryeziu, but failed to win the first Olympic medal in its second participation in winter games.
Kosovo will celebrate its 14th anniversary of Independence on Thursday, February 17th, officially recognised by 117 countries in the world.
But China, which has no trouble welcoming Kosovo athletes with state symbols in the races it often organises, is not among those who recognise its independence.
Tahiri, who competed in four different disciplines in the Beijing ski race, took advantage of the presentation alongside Kryeziu on Chinese state television CGTN to call on this country's government to recognise the newest European state.
“Sic we all know, Kosovo declared independence in 2008 and so far more than 115 countries have recognised us. I have to thank you certainly, because during our time here in China, you have treated us very well, although the Chinese government does not recognise us (the independence of the state), but if we are to have this good relationship, as you have witnessed to us today, I feel very positive that in the future you will recognize us”, Tahiri told CGTN.
Tahiri, who became the first athlete to represent Kosovo in the winter games four years ago in South Korea, closed the Kosovo slalom races today, one of the four disciplines he competed in Beijing in his second participation in the games.
It was released 44th in the first launch, and in the second, it took off, but only thanks to the failure of many contestants to finish the race.
Only 45 of the 88 racers managed to finish the race in both slalom concessions today.
The 28-year-old registered 2 minutes and 02.94 seconds of his two slalom concessions, which only provided him with the 37th place, which is the eighth from the end.
It was his worst ranking in these games, as Tahir at the launch was 35th, in the 15th alpine combination and in the 30th largest slalom.
Meanwhile, Kryeziu, who became the first woman to represent Kosovo at the 17-year-old Winter Games, competed in the large slalom and took 49th place.
