View: New York sends word of emergency from flooding, railway station fills with water

The National Weather Service has issued its first ever warning of flooding in New York City after the Ida storm brought heavy rains that flooded railway stations and roads in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and New Jersey. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio declared the emergency shortly after midnight, saying: “we are facing a historic weather event tonight with record rainfall across the city, severe flooding and dangerous conditions on our streets. ”
Social networking shows the underground railway stations flooded. Floods have also affected several roads and homes, writes BBC.
The National Weather Service announced that it has recorded 20 inches [8 cm] of rainfall in just one hour in New York Central Park.
City police have called on residents not to take to the streets, while the fire department has said it is responding to calls for help in different parts of the city.
