A sad ending for people who wanted to earn a loaf of bread in a more just world

A sad and sad fate struck the people who left their poor and wounded land to earn a loaf of bread elsewhere, in a foreign land and lost their lives in the streets.

And what the owner of the agency who organizes these trips and wins over the poor said after the tragedy near Slavonski Brod, where ten people lost their lives when the bus got off the highway, is a reflection of the misery, corruption and stupidity that people in our region have been deprived of decades of the right to a normal life, in right society, right to a future and happiness.

Such people, for whom the preservation of their work is more important than human life, are the curse of our region. Hatage, the keeper of wild bees, repeats as mantra the rule in which, in spite of poverty, she divides honey with bees and dog food, fruit with a sick mother:

Half for me, half for you... the messages of that businessman Safet, the messages of this travel agency owner, the messages of our countless bandits, the Cerums, the hovats, the sanators, the smiths and the bacicians are obviously different.

These are messages of exclusive greed, predators, what evil bees will do to bees at the hive, for example.

That is why it is not surprising that areas from Kosovo and Macedonia at Croatia's western borders are being emptied more than ever before, that entire villages are disappearing, that people desperately seek a better and more fair life.

In the West, this is difficult for many to understand, just as our people can hardly understand the need of millions of desperate people to come to Europe from Afghanistan, North Africa, Iraq or Iran.

The village from that film was also emptied, poor Hattage no longer lives there, only her fabulous wild bees are there.

Although he wrote a clever analysis of the film, even Richard Brody from New York could never guess why the village of Berkeley was desolate, why people go and walk away from these wonderful landscapes and end up: “We never know what the crisis was or what circumstances led to this ecstasy.
