Thousands of protesters have walked along the road in downtown Istanbul on Monday to denounce violence against women in Turkey. Last year alone, over 400 women were killed in 2020.

However, the police later inspected the demonstration videos and on Wednesday imprisoned 13 people including a minority who participated in the protest.
The Cumhuriyet newspaper and other media said the suspects were questioned because they had offended Erdogan.
To insult the president is a crime in Turkey, punishable by up to four years in prison.
Thousands of people, including journalists, politicians, actors and schoolchildren, have been persecuted for insulting Erdogan. /Periscope
