Tourism in Albania falls to lowest point

COVID-19 has continued to limit the movement that has resulted in a dramatic situation especially for the tourism sector these summer months. The Statistics Institute reported that the entrances of Albanian and foreign citizens to Albanian territory, in July 2020, total 663,980. Compared to July 2019, this indicator results in a decline of 61.5 %.
In July 2020, the entry of foreign citizens on Albanian territory is 387.716. Compared to July 2019, this number has dropped by 67,1 %. The number of foreign citizens entering Albania in the seventh quarter of 2020 is 1,69.610, dropping by 64.7 %, compared to the same period in 2019.
During the seven months of 2020, Kosovo has the lowest drop in citizens' entry into Albania by 52.4 %, while Spain's largest decline has been 88.6 %, compared to the same period in 2019”, says INSTAT publication.
During these months, mainly in June and July, except citizens from Kosovo have had access to other countries like Poland or Belarus, mostly tourists with cards but unable to make any difference. In July alone, there were 9600 tourists nearly four times less than July a year ago, while as seven months ago, Polish entry into our country for 2020 resulted in 11 800.
Pandemia has also limited the exits of Albanian citizens. According to INSTAT, the exits of Albanian and foreign citizens from Albanian territory, during the month of July 2020, are 545.962, marking a decline of 62.7 %, compared to the same period a year ago.
The “Deals of Albanian citizens from Albania's territory during July 2020 are 246,334. Compared to July 2019, this number has dropped 52.3 %. The exits of foreign citizens from Albania's territory during July 2020 are 299.628. Compared to July 2019, this number has dropped 68.4 %. The number of Albanian citizens released from Albania in the seven months of 2020 is 1.626.642 dropping 48.7 %, compared to the same period a year ago” is said in the report.
