Selim Selimi has received his official post as minister of justice in Kosovo today.
Speaking to reporters, Selimi has said that after the pandemic, besides economic recovery, justice and rule of law must be a priority.
According to him, it should be started by analyzing the current situation, and addressing other priorities.
After pandemic and economic recovery, we must not forget justice and rule of law. We must maintain the function of justice. We agreed with the secretary to start a plan to analyze the current situation, and meetings with directors and civil staff. We'll get to work right away. We have priorities to address. These priorities should be in close cooperation with partners. Selimi also spoke of the vetting process, which he said should create a mechanism that is not political and one-sided but must be inclusive.
I first need to do a current analysis of the situation in the ministry by meeting the persons responsible in the dictatorship. In principle, the accounting process is continuous. We must continue accounting, but we must not create unilateral mechanisms of prosecutorial and court control. I can't say something definitive. The type of mechanism should not be political, but inclusive, because it can only produce results. We have had a conversation with Prime Minister Hoti to find solutions, so this mechanism is not political”, Hoti said.
