The hospital where he was laid initially suggested that 34-year-old Lee Wenliang was in critical condition, but alive, lying to the media.
Now, the hospital has revealed that the doctor, in fact, is dead.
In battle with the choreographer, our hospital doctor was unfortunately infected. He's currently in critical condition and we're doing our best to heal”, said the initial hospital announcement.
Some Chinese media, including the newspaper of the ruling Communist Party, had published that the doctor had passed away before deleting his posts.
Lee had sounded the alarm for the choreographer in December, posting to his student group on a “WeChat” that 7 people were diagnosed with a disease similar to SARS and placed in quarantine at the Wuhani hospital.
A few days after that message, Lee was accused of panic and false news by the police.
