US President Donald Trump's special envoy for Serbia and Kosovo said Saturday that the agreement to resume railway service between the two Balkan rivals is important for both countries.
Richard Green, who is also the US ambassador to Germany, said establishing train connections became a priority after US officials brokered another deal earlier this week to restore air traffic between countries after 21 years, Kosovo reports.
President Trump's version is now under way. The business community and the focus on job creation are paving the way to”, Grenelli said in a written statement to the Associated Press.
Green has said the US wants both sides to focus on economics, new jobs and prosperity as the road towards normalising ties. He has urged Serbia and Kosovo to remove obstacles that have been blocking negotiations for more than a year.
Grenelli visited Pristina and Belgrade this week. He said Friday at a press conference in Belgrade that details of an agreement to restore railway service would be discussed at a meeting in Berlin on Monday.
Green was appointed by Trump in October as the special envoy for talks on normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia. European Union-brokered talks began in 2011 and have stalled since Kosovo imposed the trade tax on Serbian goods in 2018.
