Engel says he has a request to the White House not to bring the United States into a war.
American citizens don't want war with Iran, and neither do I. The president pushed ahead this strike, ignoring his obligations to consult Congress and escalated into an already unstable situation with Iran. We must send a clear message to the White House: don't plunge this country into a war against Iran. Last year, I co-authored legislation and helped lead it through the White House to prevent administration from going to war against Iran without Congress approval. Republican Senators stopped that effort. In light of the latest actions, we have an obligation to try again. I already started working with my colleagues on the new legislation to restore administration. We have an obligation to keep Americans safe. Despite his rhetoric, the president's actions have had the opposite effect. I do not support a wrong fight in Iran and do everything I can to prevent the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee”, Engel wrote.
