The population aging phenomenon is becoming increasingly visible in Albania, driven by immigration and declining fertility.
But unfortunately, Albania, along with other countries in the region, is part of the group of countries with old and poor populations simultaneously.
According to Economic Demography Matrix states can be divided according to four distinct demographic profiles: countries with new and rich populations, countries with old and rich populations; countries with old and poor populations; and countries with new and poor populations.
In the first group, the new and wealthy countries include Arab countries, which were rapidly enriched in the last 50 years by oil resources, or black gold, Abc News reports.
The second grouping of wealthy but elderly countries includes developed countries, North America, Canada, and the United States of America, South America, only Chile, most of the countries of the European Union (most Western and Northern), Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.
In countries with new and poor populations, countries of the third world of Mexico, Colombia, and Venezuela - the vast majority of the countries of Africa, the Middle East, India.
While in the group that we belong to, countries with elderly and poor populations, most of the former communist countries of Eastern Europe are also suffering demographic changes.
More than 80 per cent of global GDP is generated by states whose population is rapidly aging.
The way economies build up, especially in political direction, will be an important factor in understanding economic and political trends. Northeast Asia is at the top of the curve.
Japan has the oldest population in the world with higher revenues, while China, a developing country, is home to the largest and oldest population and its population is aging rapidly.
