US Special Envoy to the Western Balkans Matthew Palmer, has been put at the centre of political attacks by the opposition in an effort to devalue his strong positions before June 30th, which were indeed crucial to saving a confrontation that could cost Albania a lot.
Seeking to depreciate those attitudes of Mr. Palmer, the opposition has attacked him by reminding him of his marriage with Danica Palmer, while serving at the US Embassy in Belgrade.
Focusing on Mr. Palmer's Serbian wife has been the opposition's chief argument, why he backed June 30th, which according to the opposition Meta-Berisha, is a stance against Albania.
I'm not then talking about <x0professional attacks” like those of Agim Nasho, who calls him a mediocre diplomat, that he is thought to have done this to attract the opposition's attention, not Palmer.
But remain in the attack as Serbia's son-in-law. For the perception of a traditional Albanian, when someone labels you as Serbian, or as Serbia's son-in-law, it means that you have done a bad thing to Albania, rather than to “the blood of ancestors”.
The sad “that led to Palmer, Albania, is that it forced a political gang to surrender, while taking the opposition hostage and leading the country towards bloodshed, to create a new crisis situation, after which reforms in justice were suspended and to force the parties to shop with them.
Matthew Palmer did this bad “”, but that was actually a bad thing only for the Meta-Brisha couple, not for Albania. Albania should be grateful to this diplomat for the determination with which it avoided this bloody spiral, into which the country was entering.
On the other hand, ironically, the inventor of this scheme that wanted to blood-tightow Albania is by chance Serbia's son-in-law.
Sali Berisha is the son-in-law of Milica, a married Serb in Albania whose daughter is Lirim Berisha. Not only has she been a good and dignified woman, but Albanian society has never prejudged Sali Berisha as Serbia's son-in-law, even though it has done dozens of black things to this country.
If there is any case, when the Albanian should really become a bit of a conspiracy, it is the opportunity to explain Sali Berisha's blacks because of his marriage to a Serb. But that didn't happen. The blacks coming from Sali Berisha are seen as black coming from him and his political group.
But what is interesting with the Albanian opposition is exactly the courage to judge Danica's husband as an anti-Albanian, Mr. Palmer, and they do so on behalf of Milica's groom, Sali Berisha.
Still more aggressive is Berisha towards Palmer over the alleged promotion Palmer makes to the Serbia-Kosovo agreement, pretending he is concerned that Palmer, as Serbia's son-in-law, can make this agreement through border correction.
The truth is Berisha is trying to underestimate Mr. Palmer's mission for what he has done in Albania.
In fact, setting limits is a bad thing, among other things, that it humiliates us Albanians and Serbs, like two primitive peoples, that we cannot live together, while we have excellent coexistence examples.
See, Sali Berisha has been married to a Serb for 40 years and has not returned his word once. I don't know how Palmer goes with Danica, but I'm sure Berisha as Milica's son-in-law is more exemplary.
