Legalisation requirements have been made during the campaign for legalisation of weapons, which has lasted 9 months, from December 17th last year to September 17th of this year, writes Koha Ditore today.
During this period the articles of the Penal Code, which sanctions and jails criminal activity “retaining ownership, control or unauthorized possession of weapons”, has been suspended by Interior Minister, now in Ekrem Mustafa's resignation.
Despite the low number of legalisation requirements, compared to illegal weapons estimated to circulate to Kosovo, according to the MPB, the campaign is successful, saying that citizens every day are becoming aware and that their faith is constantly increasing, as they have said in the right and transparent goal of legalising weapons.
Previous MPB investigations have shown about 360 thousand illegal weapons. However, this number according to the MPB media office has dropped for about 100,000 weapons. On the basis of statistics, there are about 250,000 illegal weapons in Kosovo owned by citizens. This number is smaller for about 100,000 weapons since the preliminary research in which there have been about 360,000 illegal weapons”, said the response of the MPB's media office.
They have also counted the factors that they feel have affected this decrease.
