Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri has been hosting the meeting today. EULEX chief Bernd Thran, with whom they have talked about co-operation of institutions of rule of law and new trends that are taking place within the justice system.
During this meeting, according to the media report, Minister Tahiri has called for deepening co-operation in establishing the professional capacities of judges and prosecutors, with particular emphasis on confiscating illegal property.
“Set up the most important policies I have led as justice minister, was that of confiscating property acquired by criminal acts. Today, we are determined to see justice in action, in confiscating any property acquired by crime and corruption”, the minister Tahiri has said.
Minister Tahiri added that with the implementation of the new law on the seizure of property, the fight against corruption and organised crime will take on strong character and uncompromis.
As a society, we still have challenges stemming from corruption and organised crime. The best response to these phenomena, besides prosecution, is the seizure of any property acquired with crime and corruption, from fine items to multimillion assets. We will make the new law on confiscating property key weapons against corruption and organised crime. The implementation of this law must take on strong character, and for that, prosecutors and judges serving in the justice system are preparing and should be prepared further” has said the minister Tahiri.
EULEX's monitoring processes were discussed during the meeting, as well as EULEX's “Justice 2020” monitoring processes.
