In northern Macedonia through various activities over the weekend, the 27th anniversary of the country's military, now named after the new name of the Republic of Northern Macedonia Army, INA follows. The country's president, Stevo Pendarovski of Ohrid, where the Army Day central ceremony was marked said that after resolving the name dispute and signing the Prespa Agreement, Northern Macedonia is in only one step towards that strategic goal, NATO membership.
But one of the ongoing topics that has been addressed and raised interest in the opinion is the representation of Albanians in the ARM as the second community in the country. The defence ministry does not have any concrete numbers, but is constantly underlined that it is working on increasing representation.
There are different figures: 16, 17 or 19 percent.
Stevo Pendarovski, during the time as government co-ordinator for NATO last year, stressed that there is a change of approach and commitment that proper representation of Albanians will be achieved.
“We have profile other than government. 16 or 17 % are figures that have not changed over the past 10 years. I think Zaev has another approach in this direction to differ from former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski. And they will testify that they will end the political problems the country has to solve. Albanians will be able to be the most incriminating at all levels of the state, even in defence. This will be accelerated when the NATO approach process is completed. “, Pendarovski, who has already sat on the armchair of the head of state, stressed then, is also commander of the armed forces.
DUI Deputy Defence Minister Bekim Maxuti long ago stressed that things have changed not only to the Ministry of Defence, but also to the Armed Forces, where the number of Albanians currently reaches 1440 employed or 19.04%.
The Maosti Ruzhi from the ASH Defence Department has stressed that Albanians are not represented in defence structures and the state has discrimination approaches.
According to official statistics, the number of officers is only 11%. Of the 10 generals the country has, we only have 1 Albanians. Macedonia from its independence, there is only one Albanian military attaché in military diplomacy. We don't have any Albanian officers in the NATO office who should be part of the staff. So you see a disregard for quality, we demand that quality and quantum are protected according to laws that are, but they are not being implemented. Starting with the minister, of the 15 state councilors with only two are Albanians. Of the defence ministry from 17 sectors, only two are Albanians.”, Matoshi notes. On this 27th anniversary, most public media have neglected to address the topic of representation.
