The United States has struck several senior Iran officials, including the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with sanctions against Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif with sanctions in place later.
Tensions between the two enemy states escaped last month, when Washington blamed Tehran for the attacks on ships carrying oil and that this country has dropped an American threat costing $180m.
